We are thrilled to announce that this year, BBCO is partnering with Landscape Forms to participate in the 2024 Park(ing) Day on September 20! Park(ing) Day is a global initiative that invites communities around the world to temporarily transform curbside parking spaces into vibrant public parks and social areas. This innovative project has been inspiring change for over 15 years, advocating for safer, greener, and more equitable streets for everyone.
Originally started in 2005 by Rebar, a San Francisco-based art and design studio, Park(ing) Day has grown into a worldwide movement that emphasizes the importance of public space and encourages people to rethink how we utilize our streets. By reclaiming these vehicular spaces, Park(ing) Day fosters social exchange, artistic expression, and playfulness in urban environments. It serves as a platform for individuals to engage with their communities and imagine what our streets could look like when designed for people rather than cars.
We warmly invite you to visit our installation on Main Street outside of Pecan Penny’s this Friday. Our team will creatively transform a parking space using reclaimed printing paper tubes from ARC Document Solutions in Columbus, showcasing the versatility and potential of recycled materials. Alongside this, we will feature furniture from Landscape Forms, highlighting the beauty and functionality of their outdoor seating design.
This installation is not just about aesthetics; it’s an opportunity for community engagement and dialogue about the importance of green spaces in urban settings. We’ll have interactive elements and activities planned to encourage everyone to participate and share their thoughts on how we can make our streets more welcoming and accessible.
Join us in celebrating Park(ing) Day and be part of this global movement to reprogram our cities for social connection and environmental sustainability. Together, we can envision and advocate for a future where our urban spaces prioritize people over vehicles. We can’t wait to see you there!
